There’s no shortage of photography education out there that we can learn from. And nowadays, there are so many different resources, from podcasts to free guides and more. But with all this information available, how do you know what’s going to be the best quality? What education will really be helpful for your business?
I’ve gathered a list of my all-time favorite photography resources that helped me when I was building my photography business! The most helpful things for me personally were podcasts and courses. So let’s go ahead and start with the podcasts- because seriously, who doesn’t love free education?!
Note: None of these recommendations are sponsored in any way. I just wanted to share with you all what helped me the most as I was building my own business!
Savannah runs the amazing Broke 2 Booked Out Podcast that’s all about the back end of running a photography business. If you already know the artistic side of running a photography business, but you need to learn about things such as marketing, mindset shifts, and taking your business to the next level, this podcast is perfect for you. She shares gems from her signature course that will help you prioritize what’s most important in life while running a business that supports you. She’s been my coach in my photography business, so believe me when I say she knows her stuff. Give the podcast a listen on Spotify here!
Another one that I absolutely loooove! Teresa gives some super helpful tips about… well, pretty much everything. From business building to posing clients, and mindset shifting to self care as an entrepreneur, Teresa covers so many helpful topics. She’s also such a bright light and a joy to listen to. This is a wonderful, feel-good podcast that always lifts my mood. Check it out on Apple Podcasts or Spotify!
Emily and Dawn’s podcast also has a bunch of good information for photographers at any stage in their business! My personal favorite episode is 030: Composition with Benj Haisch. Sometimes it’s really easy to get stuck in a rut, or trapped inside our comfort zones, and I thought this episode was a perfect reminder to constantly refine our craft and try new things! Emily and Dawn are both super talented photographers and highly respected educators. Listen to Take It From Us on Apple Podcasts or Spotify!
I had to mention this one because it was SO helpful to me when I listened to it. While not every episode of The Introvert, Dear Podcast deals with business ownership, this one does and it’s all about social media marketing for introverted entrepreneurs. Even though this isn’t specifically focusing on photography education, promoting ourselves on social media is something most of us do, so this was a perfect fit! And shoutout to all my fellow introverted photographers! Here’s the direct link to this episode on Spotify.
Investing in photography business education courses was one of the best things I ever did! These are a few that made a huge difference for me.
So if you like what you hear in the podcast, get ready for SO much more in the full course! Broke 2 Booked Out was the first course I ever invested in for my photography business, and I can say with confidence that I would not have been able to build my business without it. She gives photographers so many strategies to get more inquiries, sales tips to book more clients, and guidance to ensure you’re running a profitable business. It’s 1000% worth it. Get more information on the course here.
I purchased this course through Ellie McMakin before she started selling it through India Earl, and I learned everything I could’ve ever wanted to know about running ads on Facebook and Instagram. This course helps you dig deep into getting your ads in front of the right potential clients. It will also help you understand how to utilize all the features of Facebook and Instagram ads so that you’ll have the highest chance of success. You can check out the course here!
This is one that you’ll see the most success with after you have a strategic brand and a website that’s converting well. So if you need some help with that, contact me here to schedule a free intro call.
If your style leans more toward capturing candid moments and emotion, you’ll want to take a look at this one! This course helped me understand how to create more emotional moments during photo sessions, which starts even before the session happens. You’ll get to see behind-the-scenes footage of Emily during a couple of sessions, too, which is super helpful to show how her suggestions can be applied in real-world experiences! Get more information on the posing course here!
KJ All Access is a membership program that will help you gain experience from the comfort of your own home. Watching Katelyn navigate different situations, lighting, weather conditions, and more was invaluable to me. I learned so much from watching her! KJ All Access is like getting to shadow a photographer at a wedding, getting to benefit from their experience and knowledge. She walks you through why she makes the choices that she does in certain situations, and overall it’s one of the best resources out there! Learn more about KJ All Access here.
I hope this post has introduced you to some very beneficial photography education resources!
